Blog Assignment 6

Eversince videogames appeared into the history of mankind, they have helped us explore new aspects of our lives we didn’t know existed. They have opened a whole new category and meaning for creativity. Coding can now be imagined as a lot more than what it is usually related to: some guy with thick glasses sitting on a computer sweating profusely while typing (probably to hack the FBI’s mainframe or anything of that sort). A player can get immersed if the premise or the mechanics of the game are good enough. It can even be the most effective way to immerse the consumer into a fabricated world. Given the virtual reality systems being developed and the constant effort for graphics and sound quality to be improved. As with everything else, videogames are evolving in ways that couldn’t be possibly imagined thirty years ago.

Videogames started out in a very simple manner. There where two vertical dashes on the screen trying to bounce a ball around and RPG’s (role-playing games) that required vast amounts of reading and critical thinking. Most of these concepts are still preserved today with games that want to pay homage to great franchises from the past such as Super Mario 64 and Earthbound. One of the best examples is Toby Fox’s “Undertale”. This is an 8-bit, chose-your-own-adventure, RPG that caused a great impact on the indie game (independent games) industry last year. Since then, it created a strong community that stretches worldwide and has even brought people together.

This is one of the many great impacts of videogames in society. If it well thought-out and executed, it can have a long-lasting heart-warming effect in its community. The fact that industries are changing their traditional console mentality to a mobile one will make them mor aaccesible for the public, eve. To those who don’t consider themselves gamers (like me). The thing is, I most of the people around me are gamers and are so enthralled with this world that it ends up sticking to me too. It has so many mind-boggling and eye-opening concepts that can be seen in literaure such as double morale conflicts and that citizens are just one more cog in the machinery that is their country. And don’t even start with the productivity impact they may cause on an individual. If they don’t waste their time playing videogames, they are going to waste it doing something else; whether it is watching Netflix or counting grains of rice.
