Blog Assignment 8

As technology improves, people get an idea of what can be considered “obsolete”. This gives them a standard to build expectations for upcoming technologies. These expectations often include the quality of the features the technology offers (image, sound, audio, etc,), the design, and the practicality; but many people don’t give much of a thought to the price of said technology, not even the amount of work and research that needs to be done for it to become a reality. As time goes by, the amount of money people are willing to spend becomes more and more of a heated topic in the world of technology.

Let’s focus on the example provided by Nick Schmiedicker on Sony’s new wireless headphones, the Sony MDR-1ABT. The article mentions how the sound quality is affected when the headphones aren’t connected to the streaming device of choice. However, the user of this particular headset can choose between connecting them or going wireless; and, no matter what the choice is, the sound quality between one and the other is not that significant in comparisson to other wireless headphones that probably don’t give you this choice. Now, we must keep in mind that a certain amount of research and innovation had to be done for Sony to offer such a thing. Aside from this particular feature, it also has a great design and even has touch controls on the right earcup for those wireless moments. Of course, this adds to the price; around 400$ give or take.

To be honest, a thing such as headphones is more of a frivolous purchase than a necessity. They just help you channel your inner introvert, really. This article also makes note of other headphones on the market. Among them on that offers complete noice cancelation, which I wouldn’t recommend in a world full of audible danger warnings. Just saying, it would be a shame if you got run over by a truck or got beat by your mom because you didn’t listen when she called you four times. The other ones had great quality but weren’t wireless. Being surrounded by technology deosn’t really mean we have to leave it sprawled around us. Wires are not the biggest inconvenience mankind has to face; it’s more of a pet peeve at this point. At least regarding personal items. I am fully aware there are people about there willing to buy the Sony MDR-1ABT because of it’s quality and convenience, but I am also aware that there are people who have bought the iPhone X because it had a good camera and even spent extra money on a particular product because of the color. I don’t mind this type of behavior as long as people are satisfied with thier purchase and don’t get themselves in debt  because of it. The wold may keep advancing, but as customers we can always exercise critical thinking when presented with a product.
