The increasing presence that technology has in an average pedestrian life wasn't an easy-going process; it involved moments of enlightment and dissappointing experiements. New technologies must undergo regulations before reaching the public. One of these includes the distinction of adult content to protect minors from it's traumatizing and horrendous display of the human body. Disgusting. Eventhough these debates arise from a wholesome and "pure" ideal, they end up using children as an excuse in the name of discrimination and to advocate for a mentality that lacks vision.
Pornography - or anything involving nudity - may not be the best example for this argument, but it is certainly shoved into this forbiden taboo category. One must admit, children have the right to not have a morbid outlook on society; and this includes more than just being self-aware of their bodies. This is the purity that efforts such as banning pornography strive for. However, most of these measures assume that children are on the lookout for porn and that parents have no control over this whatsoever. What ever are we going to do with those sex-driven little mainiacs? (sarcasm intended). Maybe - just maybe - if sexual themes weren't treated as an underground society around children, they wouldn't feel the curiosity of diving into these topics so passionately. The young mind is a curious one, so parents and legal guardians must be very careful of how they introduce certain conversations to it. By placing off-limits to their curiosity, it will strive more to reach them.
The human mind will always be forever infatuated with things it can't have whether it is drugs or that nice pair of boots you saw the other day. This is due because of many reasons. Since this forbiden thing is not in our immediate proximity, we barely understand it; and our subconscious really wants to understand it, to have it under control. Taboo topics are becoming central themes in modern society beacause of the surging mentality of indulging into the unknown and breaking the conservative mold, and the government can't protect everybody forever; their best bet is to keep it up with labeling adult content. Maybe one day we can leave all the secrecy behind and move on to tackling bigger problems like gun control and preventing a third world war.
